There are many benefits to drinking water. If you walk around your college campus, you may find almost every student has bottled water or a reusable bottle to carry water. Drinking water is essential to your health. Fluid losses occur continuously, from skin evaporation, breathing, urine, and stool. These losses must be replaced throughout the day for good health. When your water intake does not equal your output, you can become dehydrated.

Here are five reasons to make sure you are drinking enough water every day:

1) Drinking water helps maintain the balance of body fluids.

- The functions of these bodily fluids include digestion, absorption, circulation, creation of saliva, transportation of nutrients, and maintenance of body temperature.

2) Water can help control calories.

- Water-rich foods are healthier and more filling, which helps you trim calorie intake

3) Water helps to energize muscles.

- Cells that don't maintain their balance of fluids and electrolytes can result in muscle fatigue.

4) Water helps maintain normal bowel function.

- Adequate hydration helps keep things flowing along your gastrointestinal tract and prevents constipation.

5) Water helps keep your skin looking good.

- Dehydration makes your skin look dry and wrinkled which can be fixed with proper hydration.

There are many ways you can drink more water in your life. A good one I do is to carry a reusable water bottle with volume indicators on it and keep track of every sip I take. A good way to drink water is to drink a few sips every hour on the hour. This way you can ensure you will be fully hydrated throughout the day.
